QANTAS farewells the Boeing 747 Queen of the Skies

After almost 50 years of service, QANTAS has bid farewell to the venerable Boeing 747, affectionately know as the “Queen of the Skies”. Our General Manager, attended some of the events to mark this milestone. These included a “Jumbo Joy Flight” on 13 July 2020, with a spectacular low flyover on Sydney Harbour. As you can from the pictures, it was a truly amazing “scenic” flight flying so low on a picture-perfect weather type of day.

In addition to the joy flight, ABC Travel’s General Manager attended a final farewell function on 22 July 2020 at HARS (Historical Aircraft Restoration Society) Museum, Shellharbour Regional Airport (Albion Park/Wollongong). QANTAS’ final flight QF7474, operated by the final remaining QANTAS 747 registered VH-OEJ and named ‘Wunala’,  performed a special flyover at Albion Park to “salute” QANTAS’ first 747-400 reg VH-OJA “City of Canberra”. After this, the aircraft headed towards Los Angeles and then Mohave where it will be retired forever.

These are some of the pictures snapped by our General Manager at these events.
