INTRODUCTION - ONLINE CRS/GDS COURSES
Australian Business & Conference Travel College uses computer software that specialises in the
design, development and deployment of computer-based and Internet-based IT training for the education
sector. They are the most experienced Travel Industry IT training company in the world, having
had a product in the field, in commercial use, for over 20 years.
Travel Courses
E-learning courses covering the major IT systems used in the Airline
Industry. This category includes Global Distribution Systems (GDS's). Learn how to use Galileo,
Sabre,
Amadeus. Students, airline employees, and travel agents can purchase Internet-based training immediately.
Training Programmes
The system is divided into training programmes. There is a training
programme to provide training on each of the major global GDS:
- Galileo - An Airline GDS used worldwide
- in Australia, Europe and New Zealand.
- Sabre - An Airline GDS used worldwide - in
Australia, Europe and the USA.
- Amadeus - An Airline GDS used worldwide
- in Australia, Europe, South.
- Abacus - Airline GDS used mainly in
Southeast Asia America and the USA.
- Apollo - Airline GDS used in Canada and
the US.
- System One - Airline GDS used
in the United States.
- Worldspan - Airline GDS used worldwide
with good penetration in Europe, the Middle East and the USA.
These course outlines describe the subjects presented in each of the VIASINC Training Programs.
Course outlines, emulator documentation, quiz and exam keys and other
documentation relating to VIASINC's Training Programs for airline and hotel computer systems.
GALILEO COURSES
SABRE COURSES
AMADEUS COURSES
GDS FARES & TICKETING
Courses
Each training programme is divided into courses. There is one course
covering each of the following general subject areas:
- Airlines Reservations
- Airline Fares and Ticketing
- Car Reservations
- Hotel Reservations
- Advanced Fare Construction (this is an optional extra co-developed with IATA and UFTAA).
Conversion Courses
Some of the training programmes include conversion courses. These provide
cross-training from one GDS to another. Somebody with knowledge of one GDS/CRS can learn another GDS/CRS
in less than half the time it would take to complete an entire training programme. ABC Travel College
offers:
- Galileo to Sabre
- Sabre to Galileo
Variety of Instructions
VIASINC's modular incorporates multiple types of instruction to enrich
the user's experience and help reinforce learning.
- Lessons - Lessons focus on the introduction and explanation of new entries and procedures,
and are carefully structured to help students absorb new concepts.
- Drills - Drills require students to practice the entries taught in lessons by running a
series of structured scenarios. There is typically one drill following each lesson.
- Exercises - Exercises require students to create and manipulate bookings, using the PC as
they would a live GDS. Practice scenarios are designed to familiarise students with real-life travel
situations similar to those they will encounter in their travel career. Exercises are purposely less
structured than lessons and drills. Since students interact directly with a VIASINC emulator, exercises
allow flexibility in deciding how to complete a given problem. Suggestions, hints and possible answers
are available.
- Quizzes - Quizzes are administered at the end of each unit, enabling students and
instructors to identify concepts not fully absorbed. If a question is answered incorrectly during a
quiz, the program automatically informs students of the relevant lesson section to review.
- Tests - A final examination is administered at the end of each course. Each test measures
the students' proficiency in the formats and concepts taught in the course. Students may optionally
submit their test results to VIASINC for certification.
Teaching Techniques
VIASINC presents entries in a logical and carefully-designed progression
of modules, which take students from the most basic GDS functions to the most advanced, as clearly as
possible.
- Graphic Examples - GDS entries are divided into their key elements with the aid of graphic
examples. This method helps students visualise and makes it easier to understand variations of basic
entries. It also aids in memorisation.
- Highlighting - The key elements of GDS displays are illustrated and explained with the aid
of strategic highlighting which helps present the material in a clear, intelligent and progressive
manner.
- Hints - Students may request on-screen hints when they are required to answer a question.
Never are students left without help on how to proceed or answer a question. The hints, presented in
either graphical or textual as appropriate, help students when they need it.
- Review Questions - Review questions at the end of each lesson pinpoint the key elements
taught in the lesson, reinforce difficult concepts and help students master the material covered.
- Recap Sections - Recap sections located at the end of each lesson are designed to focus
attention on the entries covered in the lesson. The recap section describes the end purpose of each entry.
Emulator Overview
VIASINC is perhaps best-known for its
superb simulation of GDS
functionality. They were the first company to create an emulator and is years ahead of the
competition in this area. No other product comes close to offering the realism, capability, and accuracy
of the
VIASINC emulators.
Emulator Capabilities
Other training packages may claim to have an emulator. No package,
however, comes close to the power, sophistication, and realism of the VIASINC emulators.
Database
Supporting each emulator is a vast database containing an abundance of
flight, fare, hotel, and car information. The database is accessed by each emulator to provide a
detailed and highly-realistic GDS experience. Database information is procured from many of the
same sources from which the GDS's procure their information. This means the information you see in the
display will also have appeared on a live system. The database is global, with PNRs, flights,
currencies, etc., from all around the world. Also stored in the database are useful tools such as
PNRs on queue, sold-out flights for waitlisting practice, and much more.
Certification
In Australia, the
VIASINC program is accredited by the Australia
Travel Training Review Panel. In the US, completion of the program qualifies for academic credit as
one elective in the CTA curriculum. CTA's and CTC's may use the program for Continuing Education Credit.
Students who successfully pass at least two tests have the option of
attaining an official VIASINC
Certificate of Completion. The handsome VIASINC certificate, suitable for framing, was professionally
designed and produced to ensure that it conveys the true value of the education students have received.
The VIASINC Certificate of Completion is recognised by
IATA in the UK as being worth 10 points in their
Agency Accreditation Program.
Students who successfully pass a
IATA/UFTAA GDS Fares and Ticketing
course given at an authorised examination centre, may obtain special IATA/UFTAA Certificate of Completion,
which is worth 20 points in the IATA UK Agency Accreditation Program.
